True Crime Television Keeps Us Busy

a genre that continus to captivate TV audiences

cable and streaming platforms loaded with true crime content…

These days television viewers are watching more true crime shows than ever before via cable tv outlets and multiple streaming platforms like Netflix, HBO MAX, and Hulu… In the past few years, the True Crime genre has considerably expanded its arsenal of content. From true detective literature of the 19th century to Truman Capote’s, novel In Cold Blood, along with its subsequent film adaptation in 1967, the genre has seen a significant surge in viewer demand. In the past few years, I have developed a niche for shooting several True Crime television episodes that have aired on Investigation Discovery, Oxygen, TvOne, and A&E. My work on these shows has included dozens of interviews with law enforcement officials, district attorneys and courtroom personnel, families of murder victims and convicted felons, as well as location b-roll at scenes of the crimes and re-creations of story elements. The migration into this genre has presented me with the opportunity to challenge my approach in cinematic lighting, incorporating stylized narrative techniques inspired by thriller, horror, and film noir genres. Recent shows include Snapped, Buried in the Backyard, Calls from the Inside, Bodies in the Basement, Fatal Attraction, Snapped: Killer Couples, and Storm of Suspicion.
